The Ho Ho bird comes from the mythical Japanese version of the Phoenix.
The bird is said to bring luck, symbolising good fortune, specifically longevity, fidelity and wisdom.

It consists of a black iron base and pole with a brass scale arc .
It has a brass paper basket.

VINTAGE TRAVELLING TRUNK (ref 1049)

This is a nice vintage travelling trunk with wooden bands.  The trunk is made from ply and has a hessian covering.
It has three beech bands around it's girth for strength and protection, the bands have metal end caps.
There are leather faced handles to both ends, it has two brass coloured locks and catches, both working but a bit stiff.
There is a fabric stay to support the lid when open and a pull out section for extra storage.
Approx. 83cm long x 47cm wide x 31cm deep.

The city of Kashan and its surrounding area is encircled by desert
and therefore does not have a good source of local materials;
originally Merino wool was imported from Manchester (UK) to create some of Iran's finest carpets.

In 1928, the Oliver Typewriter Company was sold to investors who formed the British Oliver Typewriter Company in Croydon, England.
It needs a good clean and servicing.

It has a good firm clasp   C19th century.
